live in podcasts, emails, communities, and real conversations, not in searchable databases. AI can’t listen to a podcast. It can’t subscribe to an expert’s email list. It can’t join the discussions that spark innovation. If you want leading strategy, you have to go where the humans are.

My quick story:

I told AI to act as a strategist for my industry. 5 months later I found out the information totally screwed me. It told me to start on Upwork and Fiverr… advice it pulled straight from those platforms’ own marketing pages, because that’s what AI has access to. So, I did it. I set up my profile, purchased connects to apply for projects, and drafted cover letters for every one. I quickly found out that most jobs on there were underpaid, with over 50 applicants. Most listings paid less than $50. Some, just $5 a job (I’m not kidding). A few even dangled $500 offers… until I realized they wanted a full ghostwritten book and design, with no credit or rights. Ugh.

I wasted time, spent money, and eventually left Upwork with only the success of a one-off editing job that paid 60 bucks.

Two weeks ago, I subscribed to a video series from a seasoned copywriter, and I heard, “Never start on Upwork.” Where was that advice 5 months ago? Well, folks, I was led astray. But you don’t need to be. Learn a lesson from me, and not the hard way. Because this was only one of the many stories from how AI’s advice held me back.

Quick, practical steps aligned to your daily life. This is how to launch your business into success.

First, find real people. And the right ones.

Think: What industry am I in? The online coaching space? Tech startups? SaaS? Health & wellness? Maybe you’re a functional practitioner?

Then ask: What do I actually want to get better at?
Growth strategy? Brand design? Messaging?

Find the people doing it well. The ones already where you want to go. Brand design studios that fit your niche, copywriters, web designers, SEO pros, marketing strategists.

Once you’ve found them, sign up for their stuff.

Even the free stuff is game-changing, and still miles better than what the bots can give you.

Finally, get in the room with people who know more than you do.

Join real conversations.
LinkedIn, Facebook, Slack, Discord, Reddit. Pick one.

For once, don’t engage for the algorithm. Engage to learn something. Ask questions. Start discussions. You might think, “They don’t have time to respond to me.” I thought that too… but they do. And now, I’m asking better questions, getting smarter answers, and it’s pure gold.

IIIIIII’m cruising! I have collaboration. I have new inspiration every other day, and my business is working harder for me, so I can enjoy my kids more. It’s pretty great.

Also, talking to people is way more fun than talking to bots.
It just is.

You are capable, and you can do it.

How should you use AI?
Use it like the secretary who sits at the front desk. Not the CEO calling the shots.

Let it help you clean, organize, meal plan, or find a synonym. But if you’re having it write something for you, make sure to:

Brain dump first. Don’t start with “Write me a post about…” Let your fingers do all the typing.
Feed it your writing. And tell it: “Light edits only.”
Add the mess back in. Throw in parentheses (like this). Add an extra “o” to looooove. If it listed three things, add a fourth. And ban the buzzwords… there are freebies everywhere listing those.

Even after all that, it might still sound a little generic. But at least it’s starting from you.
